Swam for only 40 min today. Out of breathe, hungry, exhausted, dehydrated. Morning swims are way rougher, because I don't wake up early enough to eat enough, drink enough (hiccup), or digest enough. :(

On the plus side, I realized today that I do better later in the game if I breathe every two strokes instead of every 3. It takes more time to breathe, but the extra oxygen I get really helps a lot.

i thought you'd been watching enough olympic swimming ("for tips," as mom as been saying) to notice that they take breaths every 2 strokes. but i guess you are no michael phelps or dara torres... she could be your mother.

okay, i guess i'll go biking now to round out the day in triathlon style.

Actually, I was inspired by the Olympics after watching the women's 800 final yesterday. In that race (which is longer than some of the other ones that have happened), lots of people were breathing after two strokes, which gave me this idea.

In prior races we've seen, the 50, the 100, the 200, and even the 400, people breathe once every 3 strokes or even fewer. In the 50, heck they don't even breathe at all!

btw can i just say that people were freaking out about the women's 800 over here. love the british commentators. adlington's 2 gold medals basically = becoming a dame. esp since no british woman had won a swimming gold in like 46 years before that!

haha--they didn't even show the whole race here, because it was so long, and the Americans were not even in it (if i recall?)

Try to eat before you swim, even if its really early. I would suggest a banana (easier to digest) if you can't manage a clif bar, and what also worked well for me was gatorade because that has sugar and is a lot easier first thing in the am. Good luck with your training!

ah, gatorade sounds like a good plan. thanks for the tips!
